Neurofilament article in JAMA Neurology

30 October 2018

A report from the TTM1 biobank on the use of neurofilament light chain (NFL) was published online today. The findings from this study suggest that the serum NFL level is a highly predictive marker of long-term poor neurologic outcome at 24 hours after cardiac arrest and may be a useful complement to currently available neurologic prognostication methods.

In the paper, written by Marion Moseby Knappe and co-workers from the TTM collaboration, NFL was compared to NSE (which is currently the only biomarker recommended by guidelines). NFL showed higher accuracy than NSE, and did so already at 24h after arrest. The paper is available here: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaneurology/fullarticle/2709115
